Two of Australia’s most celebrated performers, Darren Coggan and Damien Leith, are set to share the stage in Sale this month for a massive, two-hour production celebrating the timeless songbooks of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and the legendary artists who shaped popular culture.
Titled The Two of Us – The Songs of Lennon and McCartney, the grand concert will land at The Wedge Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, June 13.
While the production anchors itself in the immortal hits of The Beatles, it also acts as an expansive celebration of mid-century music history. Backed by the lush, cinematic textures of A Good Company of Strings Quartet, Coggan and Leith will breathe new life into a treasure trove of global classics, including Pretty Woman, Hey Jude, Father & Son, Country Roads, Hallelujah, and Rhinestone Cowboy.
Both artists are uniquely qualified to pay homage to these musical icons, with each having built an international reputation for their masterfully crafted tribute portraits. Individually, their respective shows honouring Roy Orbison, Cat Stevens, Elvis Presley, and John Denver have earned standing ovations in major theatres worldwide.
The upcoming concert will also carve out a spotlight to showcase the richness of their own solo careers, featuring original songs and stories that reflect their respective Australian musical heritages.
Damien Leith first captured the nation’s heart as the charming, grounded winner of Australian Idol in 2006. Over the past 18 years, Leith has evolved into a powerhouse of the Australian entertainment landscape, selling over 800,000 platinum albums, securing multiple ARIA awards, and being named the APRA/ASA Songwriter of the Year.
Beyond the microphone, Leith is a prolific producer, television host, and an accomplished author, having recently released his first children’s novel through Walker Books.
Darren Coggan is widely regarded as one of the country’s finest contemporary storytellers. Backed by a career adorned with a coveted Toyota Star Maker title and a swag of Golden Guitar awards, Coggan has routinely sold out world-class venues, including the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Described by The Australian as oozing effortless style with a “fresh, powerful, expressive voice,” Coggan balances his time on the road as a presenter for Channel Seven’s Sydney Weekender and is currently preparing for the highly anticipated release of his new studio album, Another Breaking Wave.
