Competition powerhouse Wy Yung has again taken the bragging rights in the top-of-the-table clashes against Lakes Entrance at Bullumwaal Road, securing victories in both the under 13 and under 15 matches.
The two sides have dominated the competition this season, creating a sense of anticipation as the teams took to the field for round eight of the East Gippsland Junior Football Association.
In the under 15s, the Tigers were out of the blocks quickly, opening up a 14-point advantage by quarter time.
The second quarter was action-packed, with the home side adding 3.1 to the Seagulls’ 1.8, strengthening the lead to 19 points at the long break. This term proved to be the tale of the match, with the Tigers maximising their opportunities while the Seagulls were wasteful, missing several kickable goals.
Wy Yung kicked three goals to one in the third term to put any chance of a comeback out of the equation.
Cohen Kleinitz, Jeremy Rotheram, Lochie Yates, Jacob Silver, Yvan Cabrera and Patrick McGinty were all good for the Seagulls. Despite the loss, Lakes Entrance remains in second place on the ladder ahead of Lindenow on percentage.
In the under 13s, Wy Yung kicked four unanswered goals in the opening term to establish a 27-point lead as the Seagulls struggled for competitive inside-50 entries.
Lakes Entrance played some good football in the second term, kicking two goals to one to narrow the margin to 20 points, but they remained on the back foot and playing catch-up.
The Tigers iced the game with three goals in the third quarter while the visitors were again kept scoreless. Lakes Entrance fought the game out strongly in the final term, but the Tigers had their measure for the second time this season, ultimately winning by five goals.
Jake Christison, Kobi Caldwell, John Sowden, Ivy O’Donnell, Jacob Spiker and Nate Adam were among the better players for the Seagulls. Lakes Entrance remains in third place on the ladder, trailing the second-ranked Lucknow by four points and percentage.
All teams will enjoy a week off this weekend courtesy of the long weekend, with the Seagulls’ next match scheduled for June 14, when they host Paynesville at the Lakeside Oval.
