The Bairnsdale & District Agricultural Show is calling for volunteers to help deliver this year’s event, with organisers encouraging locals to get involved as part of National Volunteer Week, which concluded on May 25.
Vice President Julie Webb said the show relies heavily on community support to operate its wide range of exhibits and events.
“I have been a volunteer in a wide variety of community events for many years, and I now serve as vice president of the Bairnsdale & District Agricultural Show,” Ms Webb said.
“These events don’t just happen — they are created by dedicated members and a huge number of volunteers to ensure a great show is presented for all to enjoy.”

Ms Webb said there are many opportunities for people to contribute, from stewarding sections such as craft, photography, sewing and animals, through to helping with smaller operational tasks across the event.
“You can choose an area that interests you and pick the time and hours you are available,” she said.
“It is a very rewarding experience. You get to meet new faces and, at the end of the show, reflect on how you contributed to making it happen.”
She said the event’s signature attractions — including the pie-eating competition, wearable recycled art, baby competition, show boy and girl awards, and single-stem rose display — all rely on volunteer support to run.
“These sections and all parts of the Bairnsdale Show are coordinated by stewards, with so many small jobs that ‘more hands make lighter work’,” Ms Webb said.
The Bairnsdale Show is scheduled for Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7.
Organisers are encouraging anyone interested to get in touch with a committee member or attend one of the show’s monthly meetings, held at 5.30 pm on the last Monday of each month at the show office within the Bairnsdale Racing Club complex.
