Comedian, actor and storyteller Damian Callinan is set to bring his acclaimed touring show Hall Stories to Dargo on Friday, May 30 at 7.30pm, in a performance that celebrates the quirks and culture of Australia’s regional halls.
Best known for his work in the hit film The Merger, Callinan blends stand-up comedy, character performance and storytelling in a show that draws heavily on life in country towns and the people who keep community halls alive.
In Hall Stories, Callinan lifts the curtain on his own touring experiences while exploring the traditions, personalities and humour found in Australia’s rural meeting places. The Dargo performance will also see him spend time with locals to gather stories and insights into the town’s hall and its role in the wider community.
The project will extend beyond the stage, with Callinan also recording material for a podcast documenting the Dargo experience.
Organisers say the show captures Callinan doing what he does best — connecting with communities in the very places that inspire his work.
A light supper will be served at interval, including party pies, sausage rolls and sandwiches. Soft drink, water, tea and coffee will be provided, with patrons also welcome to BYO alcohol.
A raffle and door prizes will also feature on the night, adding to a relaxed community atmosphere.
