A full house of 70 local residents and guests attended the Metung Country Club on Friday, May 22, to hear a presentation from Victoria Police officers.
The engaged audience listened as officers spoke about how they engage with the community and manage a range of matters, including youth support, criminal activity such as home invasions and car theft, drug-related offences and family violence.
Superintendent Mark Edwards, from Eastern Region Division 6 (East Gippsland and Wellington), led the presentation, supported by Officer in Charge of Lakes Entrance and Metung Acting Inspector Scott Wealands and Crime Advisor Sergeant Owen Smeal. Leading Senior Constables Brooke Johnston and Matt Hurley were also in attendance.
The presentation was well received, with president John Bull thanking Superintendent Edwards and his team for their “most informative, well-structured and entertaining” session.
The dinner concluded with the announcement of the Diamond Point Legend for 2026. The award recognises the significant contribution a Metung resident has made over many years to the local community, with the 2026 honour awarded to well-known and highly respected resident Alan Lancaster.
