It was a difficult day at the netball courts for the Seagull girls, with Lakes Entrance defeated by Lucknow across all seven grades in round five action at Lakeside Oval.
The “A” grade side faced the challenge of taking on the ladder-leading, perennial premiership contenders, and while ultimately outclassed 70–39, they showed patches of form indicating they can match it with the competition’s stronger sides. Skyla White, Jess Gillard and Brodie Stubbs were among Lakes Entrance’s better players.
In “B” grade, costly turnovers proved decisive as the Magpies prevailed 32–18. Meika Pitt and Tessa York led the Seagulls’ efforts in a hard-working performance.
“C” grade came up against a well-drilled Lucknow outfit, with the visitors too polished in a 47–10 result. Harriet Cope-Kand and Mikaela Hooper provided a determined defensive effort for Lakes Entrance.
“D” grade saw Lucknow start strongly and maintain control throughout, eventually recording a 40–12 win. Samantha Mongan and Emma Daly both battled hard for the Seagulls.
In the under-17s, despite brave efforts from Lily Mills and Lily Eiseman, Lucknow proved too strong, winning 46–15.
The under 15s also went down to a dominant Magpies side, 35–6, while the under 13s showed patches of promise but were overpowered late, falling 25–14. Isobel Mills was a standout for Lakes Entrance in that contest.
Lakes Entrance will travel to Paynesville this week for an away fixture at AJ Freeman Reserve, where they will be looking to bounce back with improved performances across the grades.
