The Maffra Basketball Association celebrated its 2026 squad presentation night last week, with a large crowd gathering to recognise a successful 12 months for the club.
Around 140 athletes attended the event, which highlighted both team achievements and individual contributions across the program.
A major milestone for the association came at the Country Championships, where all eight Maffra teams competed in division one or two — an achievement matched by only four other associations across the state.
Several individual awards were presented on the night. Michelle Brady and Kelly Burgiel shared the referee of the year award, while the junior club person of the year was awarded to the under 12 boys group. Pam Brasher was recognised as senior club person of the year.
Recognition was also given to athletes who represented at higher levels, including Tabatha Coggan and Emily Murphy (Jamboree), and Lexi Avery, Coggan, Hudson Cromb, Ryder Gieschen, Oceanna Greaves, Hugo Macpherson, Chevy McMahon and Sonny Millier (ACJBC/SCC). Gieschen and Macpherson were also selected in the Victorian Country under 16 boys squad, while Chloe Murphy was acknowledged for refereeing the under 12 girls Division 1 grand final at the Country Championships.
The Eagles Spirit Award, presented to one athlete in each age group for outstanding teamwork and commitment to the club, went to Alana Robinson, Arli Booth, Layla Bayliss, Nixon Killoran, Dakota Traeger, Ben Murphy, Sadie Daly, Lincoln Fulford, Armani Hall and Elijah Banner.
