Lakes Entrance recorded its first “A” grade win of the East Gippsland netball season, edging out Lindenow by a goal in a tight round four contest at Lindenow Recreation Reserve.
In a match that went down to the wire, the Seagulls held on to win 39-38, with Poppy Carroll, Tayla Mills and Chloe Watson pivotal in the breakthrough victory.
The Seagulls also claimed success in the under 13s, where fourth-placed Lakes were too strong for the winless Cats, running out 33-19 winners with Millie Stewart and Georgi Witham among the standouts.
In “B” grade, the match was locked up at the final siren (26-26), with Hannah Kleeven, Claudia Reggardo and Mikyla Pitt leading the way for Lakes.
Lindenow, however, dominated “C” grade with a strong 43-10 win, despite solid efforts from Charlotte Zagami and Renee Shine, while in “D” grade the Cats proved far too strong, winning 41-10, with Poppy Richardson and Alicia Friend working hard in difficult conditions.
In the under 17s, Lakes produced some strong passages but were unable to match Lindenow’s composure, going down 32-20, with Sadie Stevens and Sophia Lina among the better performers.
A similar story unfolded in the under 15s, with Lindenow claiming a 31-18 win.
The Seagulls face another tough assignment this week when they host Lucknow at Lakeside Oval, with the visitors among the benchmark sides across all grades.
