East Gippslanders will receive a 20 per cent rebate on vehicle registration under a new cost-of-living measure in the Victorian Budget 2026–27, aimed at easing household transport expenses amid rising fuel prices. The State Government says global instability, including conflict in the Middle East, has contributed to higher costs at the pump.
Eligible owners of light vehicles, including cars and utes under 4.5 tonnes, can claim up to $186 per vehicle or $372 per household across two vehicles. Applications open via Service Victoria from June 1 to July 31 for the 2025–26 registration year. The scheme is expected to cost $750 million in foregone revenue.
