Mixed day of netball

Lakes Entrance welcomed Boisdale Briagolong for round three of East Gippsland netball last Saturday, with the going tough in the open grades while the junior sides produced some strong performances.

A slick Bomber outfit outclassed the Seagulls in the “A” grade clash, with Boisdale’s shooting a key feature in their 75–27 win. To add to Lakes Entrance’s concerns, Tommi Carroll was injured during the match. Lucy Carroll and Makayla Grabham worked hard for the home side against quality opposition.

In “B” grade, the contest was closer early, with the sides trading goals in the opening term before Boisdale broke away in the second. The Seagulls fought on but were unable to reduce the margin, with the Bombers’ superior ball movement proving decisive in a 29–17 win. Pariss McKendry, Bonnie Rotheram and Meika Pitt were among Lakes Entrance’s better players.

Boisdale dominated “C” grade with a 41–9 win, producing finals-standard netball and making a strong statement to the competition. Mikaela Hooper was best for the Seagulls.

The Bombers were also comfortable winners in “D” grade, producing a dominant 55–3 result. Sam Mongan battled hard for Lakes Entrance in a difficult contest.

There were better fortunes in the under 17s with Lakes Entrance grinding out a 23–21 win after being strongly challenged in the final two quarters. The Seagulls’ first half was particularly impressive and they will take confidence from their ability to hold on under pressure. Eve Hamer and Alyssia Witham were standouts.

Boisdale’s strong first quarter set up victory in the under 15s, winning 21–12. Lakes Entrance worked back into the contest after the early setback, but the opening term proved decisive.

Cobie Gilbert and Maggie Kerr impressed for the Seagulls.

The highlight of the day for Lakes Entrance came in the under 13s, with the youngsters producing an inspiring performance to record a 24–17 win. Georgi Witham and Billy Hayllar were pivotal in the result.

Lakes Entrance now turns its attention to Lindenow this weekend at the Lindenow Recreation Reserve.
