Lakes Entrance’s thirds remain unbeaten after three rounds of the East Gippsland Football Netball League, recording a strong win over Boisdale Briagolong at Lakeside Oval in round three action last Saturday.
After drawing with Wy Yung in round one, the Seagulls have now gone two matches without conceding a goal, following dominant defensive performances against Orbost Snowy Rovers and the Bombers.
Despite again struggling for accuracy in front of goal (11.20), Lakes Entrance still finished 84-point winners when the timekeepers called a halt to play.
Across their three matches this season, the reigning premiers have kicked 24.52, highlighting both their scoring power and ongoing inaccuracy.
Among the best for Lakes were Archer Connally, Thomas Graham, Jeremy Rotheram, Leroy Hayes, Harrison Bennett and Jake De Donato. Hayes was again influential up forward with three goals, while Kye Piper and Oscar Hopkins chipped in with two each.
The Seagulls sit third on the ladder, trailing Lindenow and Lucknow.
In the reserves, Lakes Entrance suffered their first defeat of the season, going down to the top-placed Bombers by 17 points in a performance that still showed encouraging signs.
The Seagulls will feel they missed an opportunity in the opening quarter after dominating possession but only leading by 11 points at the first change.
Boisdale Briagolong responded strongly in the second term with five goals to one, before holding Lakes at arm’s length for most of the second half as the teams traded goals in a hard-fought contest.
Finn Somerville was accurate up forward with three goals for Lakes, while Noah Bottom also impressed with two majors.
The better players included Tully Davis, Brendan Bassett, Kaleb Day, veteran Ryan Hooper, ruckman Michael Sowden and Sam East.
The reserves sit second on the ladder, behind Boisdale Briagolong and Lindenow.
Lakes Entrance will take on the Cats this weekend at Lindenow Recreation Reserve.
