East Gippsland Shire Council has officially expanded its Register of Public Roads, adding two sections of road while declining to include others following a decision at its April 21 meeting.
The changes were adopted following a motion moved by Cr Arthur Allen and seconded by Cr Barry Davis.
In Lakes Entrance, Ocean View Parade has been added to the register as a 0.050 kilometre urban section, classified as an Urban Access Major road. The inclusion formally recognises the section as part of the council-managed road network, making it eligible for ongoing public maintenance.
Elsewhere in the shire, Beynons Road in Ellaswood has also been added, with a 0.530 kilometre stretch classified as a Rural Access Major road.
Council said the updates reflect its ongoing review of the road network to ensure public roads are appropriately recorded and maintained according to classification criteria.
At the same time, council resolved not to include Kookaburra Lane in Cobungra and Estourts Road in Buchan on the register.
The decision means those roads will not be brought under council’s public maintenance responsibilities, allowing resources to remain focused on roads that meet the required standards for inclusion.
The register forms the basis for council’s planning and maintenance of its road network, which spans urban, rural and remote areas across East Gippsland.
