The Bairnsdale Rowing Club (BRC) were well represented at the Carrum Masters Regatta
last weekend.
The day brought sunshine and calmer conditions than in recent regattas the club has contested.
Even the persistent head wind was a welcome relief for the five BRC competitors, compared to the gale force winds at previous regattas.
Three courageous BRC members stepped up to race singles, Lynne Broad with her ever present “I’ll have a crack” attitude did a stellar job for her first race of 2026.
Gerry Ellul imbibes the moto “Challenge Accepted” as he took on a men’s single race in his second ever regatta.
To say his team members are extremely proud of his performance is an understatement.
Ron Alexander continues to sneak up on his rivals, with his consistent effort every time he hits the water.
Jo Campbell and Belinda Pownall had a cracking FM2x race, rubbing shoulders with previous State and World Champs with only mere seconds separating them.
Pownall jumped in with the Melbourne University Boat Club Cruisers V8 to be part of a truly outstanding gold medal performance.
After giving competing boats a huge handicap lead they stormed through for a convincing win.
BRC were also well represented in the mixed doubles category, with Broad and Alexander so close to a win against some very established competition.
Lastly, Pownall teamed up with Chris (PHRC) to take back-to-back wins in the mixed double, holding and opening up on their head-start for the full duration of the race.
