The magnificent autumn weather
continues to attract strong numbers to Lakes Entrance Golf Club, with members making the most of the course despite cooler
overnight temperatures.
In Tuesday’s Ruthless and Toothless competition, Lois Van Der Velden emerged victorious on countback from Maureen Simpson, who also produced a strong round. A field of 35 players teed off, with John Melrose dominating “A” grade, finishing four shots clear of the consistent Ron Baldock. “B” grade proved far more tightly contested, with Michael Goorden edging out Tony Fedat and Geoff Knox by just one shot.
Wednesday’s stableford medley again attracted consistent numbers, with 28 players competing. Justin Gray continued his strong form to take out “A” grade honours, while “B” grade was closely fought, with Betty Martino winning on countback from Apola Weel after both recorded 37 points.
Thursday’s medley par event drew a large field of 86 players. Popular nonagenarian John Coleman delivered a standout performance, finishing on +4 to win both the overall competition and “D” grade. Shane Sproule took out “A” grade with square, while Clint Dostine and Bernie Hoppe claimed “B” and “C” grades respectively, each finishing on +1.
Saturday’s medley stableford attracted 100 players, boosted by the absence of football over the ANZAC weekend. Angus McKenzie made the most of the opportunity, posting an excellent 42 points off a 24 handicap to take the win. Other grade winners included Matt Stevens (“A” Grade) with 37 points, in-form Justin Gray (“B” Grade) with 40 points, and Kat Sharpley (“D” Grade), also finishing
with 40 points.
