THUMBS DOWN: To the bottom of Foards Hill to the Wy Yung Bridge, it’s a disgrace. There’s still limbs and bits from the last flood that haven’t been picked up, then half slashed, it’s rough as guts. Surely between the shire it can be cleaned up and mowed like the rest of the area.
THUMBS UP: To the Lindenow Lions Club. Orchestrating the East Gippsland Field Days is a massive undertaking, and attracting 6000 visitors to the Bairnsdale Aerodrome is a fantastic result. Despite the howling winds that played havoc and the ongoing cost-of-living squeeze, the Lions delivered a premier event that continues to pour money back into local schools, clubs and charities.
THUMBS DOWN: To the alarming spike in local crime statistics. A 13 per cent increase in total offences across East Gippsland is a sobering statistic, but the 40 per cent jump in family violence incidents is truly distressing. These figures highlight the immense pressure our local police and support services are under. As a community, we must echo the call that this behaviour is never okay.
THUMBS DOWN: It is incredibly frustrating to see the public toilets in the Nicholson Street Mall temporarily closed due to relentless vandalism. The weekly damage has made these essential facilities unsafe. It is a sad state of affairs when a small group of people can ruin a basic community service for everyone else.
