Lakes Entrance made a strong start in East Gippsland netball last Saturday, highlighted by
the under 13 side recording its first win of the season against arch rival Orbost Snowy Rovers at Lakeside Oval.
With a full team on court,
the Seagulls showcased their potential for 2026, playing an exciting brand of netball to secure a 33–14 victory.
Isobel Mills, Eliza Dollman and Maddi Woodward led the way.
The club’s other win came in “B” grade where the Seagulls broke the game open in the second quarter before holding on for a 30–24 victory.
Meika Pitt provided a strong target in the circle, while Pariss McKendry, and mother-daughter duo Bec and Bonnie Rotheram were solid in defence. Mel Campisi’s delivery into the circle proved pivotal in establishing the decisive break.
Orbost Snowy closed the margin to two goals in the third term, but Lakes responded well late, with Campisi and Bec Rotheram among the best.
The “A” grade clash was a high-quality contest with Orbost holding on to win by three goals. The Blues started strongly, but Lakes Entrance worked back
into the match to trail by just two at quarter time.
A decisive second term saw Orbost extend the margin to seven goals by half time.
The Seagulls rallied late, cutting the deficit to three at the
final whistle, with Tilly Richardson starring in goals, well supported by Skyla White and Makayla Grabham.
“C” grade produced one of the matches of the day with
the Blues edging out Lakes Entrance by a single goal. The Seagulls led at half time, but the visitors finished strongly,
capitalising on turnovers.
Alice Pepper, Linda Lyon and Charlotte Zagami were consistent contributors.
Orbost Snowy also claimed the points in “D” grade, 22–13, in a relatively even contest where turnovers proved costly for
the Seagulls.
Alicia Friend, Samantha Mongan and Ginger Svetlik
were prominent.
The visitors were too strong in the junior grades, winning the under 17 match 41–17 and the under 15 contest 31–10.
Lily Jakins and Eve Hamer competed well in the under 17s, while Mia Hamer and Ruby Jakins were among the better performers in the under 15s.
Lakes Entrance will have a break for the ANZAC Day weekend before hosting Boisdale Briagolong at Lakeside Oval the following round.
