Numbers remained strong at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club, despite a brisk breeze suggesting winter is not far away.
In Tuesday’s Ruthless and Toothless competition, Peter Knight continued his outstanding form to take “A” grade, while Roy Roberts was victorious in “B” grade. Ian Stephens claimed the putting honours with 14 in a three-way countback, and David Scott collected the NAGA award.
Wednesday’s stableford medley attracted 30 players and produced some impressive scores. Marg Rowe led the field with 39 points in “B” grade, while Fiona Haslam took out “A” grade with 38 points. Ruth McPhee, Marlene Holmes and Rhonda Beckett were unlucky to miss the major prizes after also finishing with 38 points.
Thursday’s medley drew a strong field of 86 players, with “B” grade player Neil Howell winning with 38 points on countback from Les Rodgers, who had to settle for “D” grade. Nigel Carr claimed “A” grade, while David Cuthbertson secured “C” grade with 34 points on countback from a group of players.
Conditions were challenging on Saturday, with a chilly breeze greeting 85 players. Val Gilbert produced the standout round, winning both the overall and “D” grade honours with 37 points.
Perennial ladies club champion Renee Percival took out “A” grade with 36 points, matching the scores of Bradley Hayllar (“B” grade) and Paul Renehan (“C” grade).
Angus McKenzie made the most of an early round before backing up for the Lakes Entrance Football Netball Club later that day, and was rewarded with a superb eagle on the 13th hole.
