Lakes Entrance skip Joanne Martin, partnered with Bairnsdale’s Glynis Bugeja and Metung’s Rhonda Sadovsky, finished runners-up in the women’s triples at the State Championships at Bendigo East Bowling Club last Friday.
The trio, former teammates at Paynesville Bowling Club, went down to Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region’s Mackenzie Parsons, Emma Simmonds and Cassandra Millerick in the final, 17–10.
The Gippsland Bowls Region champions led 9–8 before their opponents won six of the final seven ends to secure victory.
The Gippsland combination entered the final in strong form, winning their three knockout matches in impressive fashion, 19–10, 17–8 and 23–7.
In other results, Lakes Entrance bowler Bradley Lancaster competed in the Champion of Champion singles, progressing to the quarter-finals before being defeated by Ocean Grove’s Bradley Pavey, 25–18. Lancaster had earlier beaten Donald Golf’s Geoffrey Rigby in the round of 16, 25–14.
Lakes Entrance Bowling Club will now represent the Gippsland Bowls Region at the Moama Bowling Club in the Champions of State Pennant Weekend tournament this weekend.
The side is in group two for the qualifying rounds alongside Moonee Valley, Karingal, Colac, Tallarookgaroopna and Traralgon bowling clubs. Their opening match is against Traralgon on ANZAC Day at 8.45am.
