The Lakes Entrance Pelicans were represented by both under 12 boys’ and girls’ teams at the Junior Country Championships in Bendigo last weekend.
Both sides progressed through the qualifying rounds before being defeated in the quarter-final stage.
The girls’ team — Billie Piper, Madison Silver, Emily Whelan, Evie Jenkins, Hazel Abbey, Kayleigh Culpitt, Maddie Profit, Shiloh Eiseman, Tessa Manley and Zari Haslam — recorded an impressive win over Benalla in the preliminary rounds, before going down 35–11 to Leongatha in their finals match.
The boys’ side, featuring William Bire, Levi Poynton, Lucas Rickman, Jethro Clifford, Rylie Darcy, Jackson Lawrence, Beau Russell, Jesse Downing and Kade Watson, secured qualifying wins over Maryborough and Seymour, before being defeated by Portland 41–25.
