Bairnsdale has recorded its second consecutive home victory in round two of the Female Football Gippsland under 18 girls east competition.
After overcoming a persistent Traralgon in round one, the Lydia Gudgin-coached Redlegs made light work of Morwell in round two, running out 10-goal winners.
Skipper Lucy Carroll delivered a standout performance up forward for the reigning premiers, kicking five goals in a polished display. Dixie Clack was named best-on-ground and also contributed two goals, while the acrobatic Ashtyn Stone added two majors of her own. Stone also entertained the crowd with post-goal celebrations featuring backflips and handstands, drawing comparisons to Jason Akermanis at his
most expressive.
Among Bairnsdale’s better players in a strong team performance were Clack, Jemma Martin, Carroll, Sadie Stevens, Tayla Mills and Tahlia Chila.
For Morwell, skipper Holly Minahan kicked her side’s only goal and was among their better players alongside Ava Busch, Katy Brownley, Mila Williamson, Heidi Gardiner and Quinn Stockdale, who battled hard against quality opposition.
Bairnsdale will travel to Woodside on Sunday to take on Woodside Recreation Reserve.
In other matches, Boisdale Briagolong defeated Hill End by 56 points at the Cabbage Patch, with Lara Dowsett kicking three goals in a best-on-ground performance. Traralgon also recorded its first
win of the season, defeating Sale City by 19 points at Stephenson Park
in Sale.
