Despite weather conditions that were far from ideal toward the end of last week, the Lakes Entrance Golf Club successfully completed a full schedule of play.
The week was headlined by the men’s monthly medal on Saturday, where a field of 84 players hit off into tricky conditions. “B” grade player Corey Schreuders produced the standout round of the week, handling the elements superbly to finish with an impressive six-under-par and claim the medal.
In other Saturday results, Brendan Matheson, of Future Golf, took out “A” grade with an even-par finish, while Jim Leslie secured the win in “C” grade at one-under-par. Murray Webb rounded out the men’s winners by bagging the “D” grade title at four-over-par.
On the women’s side, Julie O’Neill’s two-over-par performance was enough to secure the ladies’ pin for the month.
The week’s success followed strong turnouts for mid-week events, starting with last Tuesday’s “Ruthless and Toothless” competition. Mark Evans claimed the “A” grade victory while Roy Roberts was successful in “B” grade, though Les Beckett was all smiles as he headed home with the NAGA award.
Thursday’s Medley Stableford saw a field of 79 players take to the course, where Norm Backman continued his recent resurgence to take victory in “A” grade and the overall
win with 36 points.
The “B” grade competition was a tight affair, with Laurie Thomson eventually claiming victory with 35 points on a countback from the ever-consistent Les Rodgers. Jeff Wilson completed the week’s honors by nailing the “C” grade win with 34 points.
