East Gippsland is set to host a major endurance sporting event in 2026, with Spartan Race Australia announcing its Ultrafecta Weekend will be held in the region on November 21–22.
The event will be based at the Esplanade in Lakes Entrance, with courses extending across a mix of coastal, bushland and trail environments.
Spartan Race, an international obstacle course racing series, is expected to attract between 3000 and 4000 participants, officials and spectators to the region over the two-day event.
The Ultrafecta Weekend format includes multiple race distances, allowing competitors to complete the Spartan “Trifecta” — comprising sprint (5km), super (10km) and beast (21km) races — within a single weekend.
The program will also feature a 50km Ultra event and shorter races for children.
East Gippsland Shire Council and Destination Gippsland are supporting the event, which is expected to generate increased visitation and economic activity across the region.
Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said major events played an
important role in promoting East Gippsland and supporting local businesses.
“Events like this provide opportunities to showcase the region while also contributing to local economic activity through increased visitation,” Cr Ashworth said.
Spartan Race Australia General Manager Max DeLacy said the region’s landscape made it well suited to the event.
“East Gippsland offers a diverse natural environment that supports the type of terrain required for obstacle course racing,” Mr DeLacy said.
Organisers say the event will include a festival-style atmosphere, with participants and visitors encouraged to stay in the region and explore local attractions, including coastal areas, national parks and food and tourism offerings.
Further details, including course information and registration, are expected to be released closer to the event date.
