The next stage of the Marine Parade upgrade in Lakes Entrance is set to begin on Monday, April 20, with works starting at the Barkes Avenue intersection.
East Gippsland Shire Council is progressing the project
as part of a broader plan to improve safety, traffic flow and accessibility along the busy
foreshore corridor.
Stage 2 will focus on upgrading the Barkes Avenue T-intersection, a key junction within the precinct, with works aimed at improving safety and functionality for both motorists
and pedestrians.
The upgrades are designed to support the needs of a growing and ageing community, while also improving conditions for pedestrians, including
school children.
The works follow the completion of Stage 1 and will include intersection upgrades, road reconstruction, drainage improvements, new footpaths and kerbing, as well as updated signage and line marking.
Council has indicated the project has been shaped by earlier community consultation, with feedback contributing to design elements such as pedestrian safety improvements and traffic management measures.
Construction is expected to take approximately 12 weeks. During this period, Marine Parade will remain open, although temporary lane closures and minor delays are anticipated.
Barkes Avenue will be closed for most of the construction period, with detours in place. Property access will be maintained where possible.
The Marine Parade upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian Government and East Gippsland Shire Council, and forms part of a longer-term infrastructure program for
Lakes Entrance.
