Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance life member Cameron King has been awarded the prestigious National Medal, recognising his long-standing dedication and service to the lifesaving community.
A life member of the club, Mr King continues to play an active role, serving as both gear steward and grants officer on the committee. His ongoing commitment reflects years of hands-on contribution both on and off the beach.
The National Medal forms part of Australia’s honours system and is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated long and diligent service in roles involving risk to personal safety, particularly in protecting or assisting the community during emergencies or natural disasters. Volunteer lifesavers must complete a minimum of 30 patrol hours each year over a 15-year period to be eligible for the award.
Life Saving Victoria chief executive officer Cath Greaves praised Mr King’s contribution, highlighting the importance of volunteer service in keeping communities safe.
“The National Medal is a fitting honour to recognise our volunteer lifesavers who give their time and energy freely and generously to keep our community safe in the water,” Ms Greaves said.
“I congratulate Cameron on receiving the National Medal and thank him for his incredible efforts in supporting both Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club and the broader lifesaving movement.”
