A group of Lakes Entrance Secondary College year eight and 10 students recently travelled to Bairnsdale to compete in the first East Gippsland schools lawn bowls competition.
The enthusiastic youngsters went up against an equally excitable group from Bairnsdale Secondary College (BSC). Slow to start, the Lakes Entrance team improved as the match progressed, finishing strongly after picking up some handy tips along the way.
However, Bairnsdale’s experience gave them the edge, but the Lakes team certainly showed plenty of ability and aptitude.
The day was hosted by Bairnsdale Bowling Club and was well organised by Grant Sanderson.
The general consensus among the Lakes team was that they had enjoyed a great day out, learning new skills, trying something different, and meeting other students.
Who knows — the next Barrie Lester could be in this group.
