Rotary clubs across East Gippsland are calling on the community to help recognise outstanding service by members of the state’s emergency service agencies.
The awards, run under Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self, celebrate the selfless dedication of emergency personnel who go above and beyond in their roles. They are also supported by RESCA, which funds a research scholarship investigating mental health challenges affecting emergency services workers.
There are two award categories: Officer of the Year – Volunteer and Officer of the Year – Paid. Winners from Victoria will be invited to the national awards event at Government House, Canberra later this year, where two national winners will be announced.
In 2023, Victorian winner Graham Symons of Omeo CFA went on to claim the national volunteer award.
Emergency services eligible for the awards include Ambulance Victoria, St. John Ambulance, Fire Rescue Victoria, CFA, Forest Fire Management, Life Saving Victoria, Victoria Police, State Emergency Service, Red Cross, Emergency Management Victoria, Emergency Recovery Victoria, Inspector General Emergency Management Office, Triple Zero Victoria, and the Victorian Council of Churches.
Nominations are open now and close on April 30. They can be submitted online.
