The Lakes Entrance Golf Club Championships culminated over the weekend, with Dean Barelli and Renee Percival crowned men’s and ladies’ club champions respectively.
Barelli claimed his first title, finishing with a three-round total of 243 (77, 75, 82). The six-handicapper and left-hander finished four shots ahead of Dean Grining, with Barry Brand a further three shots back in third.
For Percival, it was her ninth club championship, finishing with a total of 243 (81, 80, 82). She dominated the ladies’ field, finishing 21 shots ahead of runner-up Jacinta Wilson, with Nadine Martin a further shot back in third.
The event was played over three days, with the final round presenting testing conditions as misty rain moved through the course.
In “B” grade, Olivia Chester and James
Stirling were crowned winners, while
Rhonda Becket and Chris Barnes took out “C” grade. “D” grade was closely contested,
with Betty Martino and Jackson Dear
emerging victorious.
Mitchell Naylor was named junior champion, while Lyn Bennett and Barry Brand claimed the senior championships.
In the handicap divisions, Jacinta Wilson and Brand won “A” grade, with Hayley Cotton and Clint Dostine taking out “B” grade.
The “C” grade net titles went to Bennett and John Timmerman, while “D” grade honours were secured by veteran Noel McKenna and youngster Charlie Smythe.
Championship week again showcased the depth of talent and sportsmanship within the club, with members competing strongly across all grades.
Among the individual event highlights, Chris Barnes led the way at last Wednesday’s medley stroke event, finishing as overall and “B” grade winner with an impressive four-under.
Percival was successful in “A” grade, while Jenny Dowie took out “C” grade.
Numbers were slightly down for Thursday’s medley stableford, with 68 players teeing off. “C” grade player Allan Taylor led the field with 38 points, ahead of Neil Howell in “A” grade and Igor Malajew in “B” grade.
Jamie Coates was the standout on Saturday, shooting 77 off the stick for a net 70 to claim “A” grade and overall victory. Ian Thomson won “B” grade, Chester took “C” grade, and Bennett secured “D” grade honours.
