Five students from Lakes Entrance Secondary College have been selected to take part in the School for Student Leadership program in term two, a significant achievement given the highly competitive nature of the initiative.
Chelsea Smart, Mackenzie Maroney, Jasmine Wallis, Malachi Misiak and Collin Bassie will join students from across Victoria for the eight-week residential program, where they will live and learn on site.
Only around two per cent of students from Victorian government schools are chosen to participate each year.
The program is delivered at campuses
across regional Victoria, with the Lakes Entrance students set to attend the Don Valley campus, the newest site, located in a natural bushland setting.
During their time away, the students will take part in a range of team-based activities, outdoor challenges and group projects aimed at building confidence and developing leadership skills. The experience also encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, form new connections and challenge themselves in unfamiliar environments.
Lakes Entrance Secondary College principal Jacob Shingles said the selection was a proud moment for the school.
“We are incredibly proud of this group. It’s not every day students get an opportunity like this, and we know they will make the most of it,” Mr Shingles said.
“It is a great chance for them to build their confidence and bring those skills back to our school and wider community.
“The college looks forward to hearing about their experiences and seeing the positive impact they will bring back to LESC.”
