The Omeo Ambulance Victoria branch has been named Event of the Year for its exceptional work organising the Omeo Emergency Services Open Day.
Held in June 2025, the event showcased the work of local emergency services, including Ambulance Victoria, SES, Victoria Police, and CFA. Activities ranged from vehicle tours and car rescue demonstrations using the jaws of life, to hands-on CPR workshops, providing engaging experiences for visitors of all ages.
AV Omeo Team Leader Rhiannon Snape said the response from the community exceeded expectations.
“Originally we organised the event to attract more Ambulance Community Officers, but then thought to make it bigger by including our emergency service partners,” she said.
“It was the first Emergency Services Open Day we’ve held and it was a resounding success. It was amazing to see so many members of the community turning out to support us and all the work we do.”
Ms Snape said it was an honour to have the event recognised on a larger scale.
“We never thought the open day would lead to us receiving this award,” she said.
“I feel incredibly proud to have our work recognised alongside so many other amazing locals who all work together to make our area such a great place to live.”
The award was presented by the Omeo Shire Lions Club at their Australia Day awards ceremony.
