It was a huge week at Lakes Entrance Golf Club with the start of the 2026 Club Championships.
The women will play rounds on Wednesday and Saturday, while the men’s competition will culminate
this Saturday.
Perennial female champion Renee Percival holds a two-shot lead over Jacinta Wilson, with Nadine Martin is a further six shots back.
In the men’s field, long-hitting left-hander Dean Barelli leads by five shots from Barry Brand, with Dean Grining and Stuart Yates a further shot behind.
Earlier in the week, Ruthless and Toothless competitions saw Stuart Symes claim “A” grade and John Anderson “B” grade, while Peter Knight won putting and David Kilpatrick took the NAGA. Karen McKenna impressed on Wednesday with 40 points to win overall and “A” grade, and Jenny Dowie claimed “B” grade with 38 points.
Thursday’s medley stableford was won on countback by Brad Hay in “B” grade over Julie Rowe, both finishing with 37 points. Barry Brand and Geoff Dobbin took “A” and “C” grades respectively.
Saturday’s first round of the Club Championships attracted 134 players. Jacinta Wilson triumphed in “B” grade with three under, while Brand and Barelli shared the best “A” grade round at two under.
Chris Clarke won “C” grade with even par, Jackson Dear took “D” grade on countback from Ben Rotheram, and Percival recorded the best female round with 81.
Sunday’s medley stroke was dominated by Ben John, who shot six under to win “D” grade and overall. Brett Stokes bounced back from Saturday to take “A” grade with three under, sharing the round of the day with Barelli, while James Stirling (“B” grade) and John Timmerman (“C” grade) also posted even-par victories.
