Lakes Entrance premiership star, Bradley Lancaster, has claimed the prestigious Gippsland Bowls Region (GBR) Men’s Champion of Champions title.
The competition brings together singles champions from all GBR member clubs in a knockout format, and spectators at Bairnsdale Bowling Club were treated to an entertaining display of draw bowling and thrilling “seat of the pants” games during last Sunday’s finals.
Morning semi finals set the stage for the grand finals in the afternoon. Lancaster defeated Maffra’s Michael Roberts 25-16 in one semi-final, while Bairnsdale’s Danny Prazza overcame Sale’s Andrew Bell by the same score. In the women’s semi finals, Lakes Entrance’s Margaret Brandhoj outpointed West Sale’s Jean Centra 25-14, with Bairnsdale’s Colleen Smith defeating Sale’s Pamela Carter 25-14.
Grand finals mirrored the recent GBR Premier League clashes, with Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale facing off in both men’s and women’s matches. Both contests went down to the wire, with Lancaster narrowly
defeating Prazza 25-22 and Smith edging out Brandhoj 25-23.
The win marks Lancaster’s fifth GBR Champion of Champions title and Smith’s fourth. Both will go on to represent the region at the State Championships in April.
As part of the presentations, the GBR Players of the Year were also announced, with Lancaster and Carter receiving the honours.
