A free public symposium on the impacts of current public land management and its link to bushfire risk will be held at the Bairnsdale RSL on Sunday, March 29.
The event, inspired by the release of bushfire expert John Mulligan’s book Our Mismanaged Forest, aims to inform residents about land management issues through a variety of expert perspectives. The symposium runs from
10am to 1pm, with light refreshments provided and lunch available afterwards.
Mulligan, a 94-year-old East Gippsland resident, will speak on why he wrote the book and the implications of rising fuel loads. Presentations will also be given by Shadow Minister Melina Bath, ABC journalist Tim Lee, Gunaikurnai elder Russell Mullett, former CFA officer Simon Armytage, and Mountain Cattlemen Association president Cass McCormack. Gippsland East MP Tim Bull will chair a panel discussion featuring fire scientists and forestry experts.
Organisers hope the symposium sparks discussion on bushfire preparedness, fuel management, and the future of Victoria’s
public lands.
The event is free and open to
the public.
