Members of the Lakes Entrance Girl Guides rolled up their sleeves earlier this month to take part in Clean Up Australia Day, helping keep one of the town’s most popular areas tidy.
Six Guides, along with their leaders and a supportive parent, spent time collecting rubbish around the Eastern Beach car parks. The group worked together to remove a range of litter, including beer bottles, takeaway coffee cups, and various smaller items that had been left behind.
Guide Rosie McMillan initially remarked on how few cigarette butts the group had found during their clean-up. However, when the group returned to the car park area where they had started, they discovered a small spot where quite a few cigarette butts had collected.
The Guides were pleased to receive encouraging comments from several passers-by, who stopped to tell them what a great job they were doing.
“The positive feedback delighted the girls and helped reinforce the importance of caring for the local environment,” Unit Leader, Sue Grima, said.
The Guides appeared to thoroughly enjoy the activity, taking pride in helping keep Lakes Entrance’s beautiful foreshore clean for everyone to enjoy.
Community activities such as Clean Up Australia Day are a regular part of the Guides’ program. Lakes Entrance Girl Guides meet every Monday during the school term and welcome new girls and adult volunteers. For more information, contact Girl Guides Victoria.
