Last Saturday saw the staging of heat three of the three-race PB Lawrence Trophy series, a points race for the Etchells Scratch Series, MYC Trophy, and Club Championship at the Metung Yacht Club.
The event attracted 10 boats, including four in division four and six Etchells in division one.
Course seven, set in Bancroft Bay, featured a club start to starboard with all other markers left to port. The course included three windward/leeward legs between a mark laid off the jetty above Chinaman’s Creek and a mark above Bell’s Point. Each leg measured 0.9 nautical miles on a 130-degree axis, with winds from southeast to south-southeast ranging from three to eight knots.
First home and winner of division two was Beagle, crewed by Simon Bazeley (helm), Bruce Crombie, Ed Smith, and Maxine Bazeley. Second boat home and winner of division one was Leading Edge, skippered by Fred Haes with Tony Doolan and Will Crooke aboard.
The winner on handicapped time for heat three was New Wave II, which also claimed the overall PB Lawrence Series. The boat, owned by Les Tuckey and crewed by Graeme Jamieson (helm) and Derek Russell, was presented with the trophy by Mary Rowe, partner of the late Peter Lawrence, and club commodore Peter Kanat.
Last week’s twilight sailing featured 10 boats on a triangle course in Bancroft Bay, with shifty south-southwest winds of five to seven knots.
Sail A Vie (Darren Knights, helm; Lynne Rixon;
Roger Claydon; Anne Claydon) took first place, followed by Etchellente in second and Wind Charmer in third.
