Lakes Entrance Golf Club has enjoyed another busy week on the fairways, with plenty of winners across a range of events.
Marlene Holmes continued her impressive run, taking out “B” grade and the ladies’ monthly medal in the medley stroke event on Wednesday with an outstanding four-under. She narrowly missed overall victory on countback to “A” grade winner Les Beckett. Other midweek winners included Julianne Webb at Young and the Rest of Us, while Beckett again claimed “A” grade honours at Ruthless and Toothless, with Rex Mockett taking “B” grade. Bruce Wilmhurst won the putting award, and Craig O’Brien claimed the NAGA prize.
Thursday’s medley stableford saw “B” grade veteran Les Beattie dominate with 42 points for the overall victory. Brett Dostine secured “A” grade on countback from Justin Gray and Stuart Symes, while Julie O’Neill took “C” grade honours with 37 points. John Timmerman and Ben John finished on 41 points but left disappointed, with John’s errant tee shot on the 18th landing in the water.
Saturday’s medley stableford attracted 111 players despite morning drizzle. Wayne Rothwell stole the show in “D” grade with a remarkable 44 points, while long-hitter Dean Barelli led “A” grade with 39 points. Symes continued his strong form to win “B” grade with 38 points, and Geoff Preston claimed “C” grade with 37 points. Sherrie Elliott also shone, winning two nearest-the-pin prizes with her consistent play.
It was another week of strong performances, showing the depth of talent across Lakes Entrance Golf Club.
