Last Sunday, March 1, Serendipity Music Events and the Kalimna Hotel hosted Grassroots on the Hill, a live music event showcasing four original artists.
The event was the first of its kind in the area and attracted around 100 attendees who gathered to support live music. Performances took place on a truck stage, utilising the pub’s outdoor area for the first time, with sound production provided by Bruthen Music.
“My intention for these events is to celebrate original music and expand the horizons of local acts, as there isn’t much opportunity in the region to do so,” Serendipity Music Events founder Olivia Lay said.
The lineup featured Jack Raymond, a mountain-roots artist originally from Harrietville; JC and the Tree, an indie folk duo from the Sunshine Coast; Lyle McLoughlin, a multi-instrumentalist from the United Kingdom; and Lakes Entrance acoustic artist Olivia Lay.
Audience members praised the diverse lineup and relaxed atmosphere.
“The atmosphere and turnout were incredible. It truly reaffirmed our commitment to being a hub for live music,” Kalimna Hotel owner Shaun Massie said.
“We want to thank everyone who came out. You have proven that this is just the beginning of bigger and better things at the Kalimna Hotel.”
Ms Lay has also organised events including the 2025 Snowy River Country Music Festival and the 2026 Live on the Lawn in Orbost. She is currently working on more events, with a particular focus on showcasing local, original musicians.
