The Sarsfield Rural Fire Brigade has launched a community appeal to support residents of Yarck and surrounding areas following the devastating bushfires in January.
The fundraiser gives locals a chance to give back after the generosity shown to the Sarsfield community during the 2019–20 fire season. Community members can contribute by purchasing fencing materials or hand tools at rural supply stores in Bairnsdale, including Brownrigg, Elders, Goodman Seeds, and Gippsland Treated Pine. Items such as fencing posts, wire, shovels, and rakes will be donated directly to recovery efforts.
For those unable to visit stores in person, QR codes for financial donations are available on the Sarsfield Rural Fire Brigade Facebook page and on flyers across the region. Funds raised will go toward essential materials for affected landholders.
Boundary fencing is a key priority in early recovery, helping protect livestock and allowing farmers to begin rebuilding. Local businesses Buchan Towing and Ian Brownrigg have offered to transport all donated materials to Yarck on March 14 for distribution.
The brigade is urging the community to get involved and support those facing the long road to recovery. Donations and contributions will be accepted until March 10.
