Rhonda Smith and Fay Kleehammer are the 2026 Lakes Entrance Croquet Club doubles champions.

With a mixed bag of weather last Tuesday and Thursday, 12 members were paired in a Hi/Lo format and played five games over two mornings. Pairs were graded according to handicap, allowing more experienced players to support lower-level players for the event.
Tuesday tested the players with very warm conditions, while Wednesday’s play had to be postponed due to heavy rainfall, leaving the courts too wet underfoot. To protect the courts before the upcoming singles tournament, play resumed last Thursday.
After four pairs finished the first morning with two wins and a loss, Thursday’s first game hinted at an imminent change in the placings. The final fifth game ultimately determined the winners and runners-up. Five of the 15 games went to a tie-break hoop, making the matches very competitive.
Special mention must be made of May Beveridge, who, nearing her 101st birthday, continues to compete in the club doubles championship.
This concludes the club championships for 2026, except for the president’s trophy, which will be held later in the year after some members return from their winter getaways.
Golf croquet is a thoughtful and inclusive game enjoyed by all age groups, and the Lakes Entrance Croquet Club welcomes interest at any time. The courts are located near the Tennis Club and Aquadome off Palmers Road, with an alternative entry from Don Road.
