Reigning premier Lakes Entrance advanced to the grand final of the Gippsland Bowls Region (GBR) midweek pennant division one competition after a dramatic victory over Sale in the preliminary final at the Metung Bowling Club last week.
The GBR midweek pennant competition concluded yesterday, Tuesday, March 3, at the Heyfield Bowling Club, highlighted by the division one finale between Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance.
Lakes Entrance earned the right to defend its title by defeating Sale by a single shot in a thrilling contest, 58-57, winning two of the three rinks.
Victory was secured on the final end of the day, when Wallace Mason, Jack Light, Bill Rowley and Kevin Brown (21-17) picked up two shots to snatch the overall win in a match where momentum see-sawed over the final 30 minutes.
Also successful for Lakes were Eric Spence, Sharon Hall, Margaret Brandhoj and Joanne Martin, 17-11, despite conceding three crucial shots on the final two ends.
Wally Hudson, Bruce Melrose, Margaret Sceney and Shane Higgins were in great form for Sale, winning their rink 29-20, but it was not enough to take the team over
the line.
