The Lakes Entrance Amateur Basketball Association sent 15 junior teams to the recent Sale tournament, with the under 10 girls crowned champions in their division.
The Pelicans kicked off their campaign with a dominant 26–0 win over Maffra Black, keeping their opponents scoreless with relentless defensive pressure. Their second match against Sale was a tougher contest, but the girls remained composed to secure a 9–3 victory. They finished Saturday with a 23–9 win over Bairnsdale, demonstrating sharp passing, smart movement, and strong teamwork, with Eliza Morrison top-scoring with 13 points.
Sunday brought a challenge against Traralgon “A”. Although the Pelicans fell 4–15, coach Mikaela Witherow was pleased the team had limited Traralgon to their lowest score of the tournament, a significant improvement from their previous 33-point defeat.
Finishing second on the ladder, the Pelicans faced Traralgon “B” in the semi final, claiming a 14–7 victory to book a place in the grand final against Moe “A”. In a thrilling overtime contest, the girls showed remarkable composure, grit, and belief to win by two points, with fierce defence and aggressive offence shining through.
Elki Thomas was awarded the MVP for her outstanding performance in the grand final, capping off an unforgettable tournament for the Lakes Entrance under 10 girls.
