Gippsland Grammar year 12 student Molly Dettbarn is diving headfirst into her third year supporting the Starlight Children’s Foundation, taking on the national Starlight Super Swim challenge this February.
Molly has set herself a remarkable goal: to swim 100 kilometres in just 28 days to bring smiles to seriously ill children and their families.
A lifelong swimmer, Molly first learned to swim at six months old and has competed since the age of seven with Sale Swim Club and South Gippsland Bass Swim Club. Now, she is channelling her passion into making a real difference for others.
“I hope to use my love of swimming to help brighten the lives of sick kids and their families,” Molly said.
“The Starlight Foundation provides these children with happiness and distraction during a time that can be really stressful. I’m glad that I can use something I am passionate about to help the Foundation carry out this mission.”
The Starlight Super Swim is Australia’s largest national charity swim, inviting participants to nominate a distance and raise funds throughout February. Money raised supports hospital-based Starlight programs and grants Starlight Wishes, giving children moments of joy during challenging times.
Molly is calling on the Gippsland Grammar community and the wider Sale region to get behind her efforts.
“Thank you to anyone who sponsors me and helps support this great organisation,” she said.
Donations can be made via Molly’s official sponsorship page, open until the end of February
