Local identity, Cohen Baylis, will step into her first lead role as Juliet in Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company's upcoming production of & Juliet.

Everyone knows how the story goes, Romeo loves Juliet, Juliet loves Romeo, then they both die.

The end. But what if there is still life to be lived after Romeo?

That’s the question Juliet finds herself asking in Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company’s upcoming May production of & Juliet.

What happens when Juliet chooses to make decisions for herself, in a future that doesn’t include Romeo?

From that moment, a new story unfolds, filled with humour, heart and the courage to step beyond a familiar ending.

At the centre of this reimagined, but well-known Shakespearean tale, is local identity Cohen Baylis.

Stepping into her first lead role as Juliet, audiences may remember Cohen from Production Line’s 2022 season of Grease, as flirty Pink Lady Marty, where she gave a taste of the powerhouse vocals she now brings to the role of Juliet.

“This role is a significant next chapter for me. It’s a story about independence,

resilience, and self-discovery, something I feel I’ve personally experienced in recent years”, Cohen said.

“The chance to express that journey creatively is something I am incredibly grateful for and I cannot be more excited

for everyone to see me performing on stage at The Forge as Juliet”.

As rehearsals continue, Cohen’s performance is already revealing both emotional depth and playful spirit, capturing the balance of vulnerability and strength that defines the character’s reinvention.

This bold and adventurous Juliet is thoughtful, determined and unafraid to question the path laid out before her.

Surrounded by a vibrant ensemble and driven by a soundtrack of well-known

pop anthems, & Juliet celebrates second chances and the freedom to choose your own future.

It is a story that feels both contemporary and timeless, reminding us that even the most familiar endings can lead somewhere entirely new.

As opening night approaches, anticipation continues to build for a production that promises energy, colour and heartfelt storytelling, with a vibrant lead performer ready to step confidently into the spotlight and claim Juliet’s story as her own.

& Juliet opens on Friday, May 1, running for three weeks, concluding with a Sunday matinee on May 17.

Discounted early bird tickets are available until March 31.
