It was a disappointing week for a pair of Lakes Entrance sides in Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant, both bowing out in preliminary finals at Bairnsdale Bowling Club.
In division two, minor premier Lakes Entrance 2 exited in straight sets despite winning two of the three rinks in a narrow 53–51 loss to Bairnsdale 2.
Michael Bratt, Carol Hurren, John Hurren and Peter Alves-Veira claimed their rink 18–17, while Lynton Rathjen, Stan Short, Kevin Watson and Rob Norder were 21–19 winners.
However, it was not enough to prevent an agonising defeat for Lakes Entrance 2, which
had lost just two matches during the regular season.
In division three, Lakes Entrance 4 also went down to Bairnsdale 4, losing 36–31.
Max Towan, Ernie Smith, Margo Short and Faye Cannizzaro fought hard to secure an 18–18 draw on their rink.
Lakes Entrance’s only remaining premiership hope in midweek pennant now rests with the defending division one side.
