A new leadership team is taking shape at Lakes Entrance Secondary College, with the appointment of College Captains for 2026 coinciding with the arrival of new principal, Jake Shingles.
Year 12 students Alexis Smart and Killian McCarthy have been named College Captains for the year ahead, stepping into key student leadership roles as they begin their final year of secondary school.
Both students have already made a strong contribution to school life through their involvement and commitment to the college community and their appointments recognise the respect they show their peers and their willingness to take on
new challenges.
As College Captains, Alexis and Killian will represent student voice, support college events and help foster a positive and inclusive environment across the school.
The pair will work closely with new principal Jake Shingles, who has joined the college after previously working at Sale College and Sale Primary School.
Mr Shingles said he
was excited to lead the school and support its student leaders.
“Alexis and Killian are wonderful role models for our younger students and truly reflect the values of our college,” he said.
“We are excited to see them grow in their leadership and contribute to the continued strength of our school community.”
Mr Shingles said he was passionate about both learning and student wellbeing and aimed to ensure the school’s vision met the needs of all members of the college community.
He brings a long involvement in Gippsland sport through playing and coaching roles, and is also a
father of three.
“The opportunity to lead this school community in one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Australia is both a privilege and an honour,” Mr Shingles said.
“My early impressions are that the staff and students have warmly welcomed me into their school and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside them.”
The college congratulated Alexis and Killian on their appointments and welcomed Mr Shingles to the role, with the new leadership team set to guide the school through the 2026 school year.
