Lakes Entrance showed significant improvement with the bat in “B” grade, but it wasn’t enough to overcome St Mary’s Nagle in round 15 of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association at the Lakeside Oval.
Coming off recent low scores of 63 and 60, the Seagulls posted a much-improved 135 in reply to Nagle’s 3/219 from their allotted 40 overs. Nagle enjoyed strong contributions from youngsters Seth Noonan (78), Lenny Dullard (38) and Kyden Capes (28). Noonan’s punishing knock came off just 56 balls and featured eight boundaries and four maximums. Lachlan Ymer was Lakes Entrance’s only multiple wicket-taker, finishing with 2/30.
This week, the Seagulls will host Buchan at the Lakes Entrance Recreation Reserve.
Both Lakes Entrance under 13 sides also took to the field with mixed results. The White side travelled to Orbost and returned victorious by six runs after posting 85 off their 20 overs.
Levi Poynton top-scored with 14 not out, while Tanner O’Donnell (2/4) and Jesse Downing (2/9) were the leading wicket-takers. Player of the match awards went to Poynton and August Neal.
The Maroon side narrowly fell short against Metung Swan Reach, failing by five runs while chasing a score of 83. Declan Bills top-scored with 13 and Tyler Purcell claimed 2/7 to lead the bowling.
In this week’s final round, both under 13 sides face away fixtures: the White side at Meerlieu, hosted at Bairnsdale Primary School, and the Maroon side taking on West Bairnsdale at Bairnsdale City Oval.
