The Inner Wheel Club of Bairnsdale is continuing its annual focus on supporting Cord Blood Research, with a fundraising event planned at Eagle Point Hub on Friday, February 27, starting at 10am.
The popular activity, called “Beetle,” will see groups of six participate in the fun event, followed by lunch. Funds raised will support scientists in their work with cord blood, which is a rich source of stem cells used in the treatment of blood cancers such as leukaemia and lymphoma, as well as other blood, immune system and genetic conditions.
Stem cells collected from the umbilical cord and placenta can be used in transplants for patients of all ages, including babies and children, making research into cord blood an important medical resource.
Tickets and further information are available through the Club Secretary or the Cord Blood Coordinator online.
The Inner Wheel Club also promotes social and wellness activities for its members.
Fortnightly “Inner Wheel Walks” see members explore different locations, always finishing with a visit to a local café.
Monthly social gatherings involve visits to different towns for morning tea, providing opportunities for friendship and community engagement.
