Cycling Without Age Gippsland has kicked off the new year with renewed energy, as the volunteer-run charity looks to expand its operations and continue offering free trishaw e-bike rides for older residents and people with mobility challenges.
The Gippsland chapter is part of a global movement and is chaired locally by Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.
“Taking inspiration from a global movement, a group of passionate locals has established Cycling Without Age Gippsland to help reconnect people with their community and the outdoors,” Mr Chester said.
The charity pairs trained volunteer pilots with passengers for gentle rides along local parks and pathways.
“By offering free rides on purpose-built trishaw e-bikes, we’re helping reduce social isolation, promote wellbeing and create meaningful connections between volunteers and passengers,” Mr Chester said.
Late last year, the group received two new trishaws, based permanently in Sale, and is working to establish a permanent home to expand its capacity across the region. The charity has already hosted several successful ride days, including its first official 2026 event, where residents from Ashleigh House enjoyed trips around Lake Guthridge.
Cycling Without Age Gippsland relies entirely on volunteers and is dedicated to reducing loneliness while strengthening community bonds. Residents interested in volunteering or keeping up with upcoming rides can follow the group on Facebook.
