The February ride for the Tambo Upper Trail Riding Club will be led by Sue Cullinan from her property at 1460 Bullumwaal Road, Mount Taylor, this Sunday, February 15.
Sue has been out planning the ride with fellow club members and helpers, with the route set to include a varied mix of terrain. Riders can expect secluded bush tracks, four-wheel-drive tracks, gullies and some
short hills.
Participants are asked to arrive early to allow time to saddle up ahead of a horseless muster at 9.45am. The ride will depart at 10am sharp, with riders advised to bring a saddlebag lunch. The group is expected to return to the floats before 3pm, followed by afternoon tea before loading up for the journey home.
To reach the rally point, riders should travel along Bullumwaal Road through Wy Yung and Mount Taylor. After passing the orange Mount Taylor State Forest sign, continue past the first road on the right, Bedggoods/Reserve Road, then turn right at the next small unmarked track. The entrance is marked by a letterbox numbered 1460. Continue along the gravel track for approximately
500 metres and park on
the left under the
power lines.
The club’s January ride was held in the Colquhoun Forest and was led by Debbie Carstairs on her appaloosa gelding, Phoenix. Riders were keen to get out for the first outing of the club year and enjoyed a network of tracks weaving through
open bushland.
Although the group maintained a walking pace, they made good time and reached the planned lunch stop early. Riders agreed to push on to avoid the heat, enjoying a shorter lunch break later in the ride after tackling several short, steep climbs through ferny gullies and along
single trails.
Three new riders were welcomed on the day. Kate Whittaker, from Stratford, joined the group for her first trail ride on her palomino gelding, while Di and Scott Adam, who have recently moved to the
Wiseleigh area, also took part. All riders enjoyed the outing and handled their horses well.
Tambo Upper Trail Riding Club rides are held at various locations on the third Sunday of each month, with new members always welcome. The 2026 calendar is available on the club’s Facebook page or at local saddlers.
