National servicemen from across the region who were called up between 1951 and 1972 are being invited to take part in a commemorative march at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance next month.
The National Servicemen’s Association of Australia (NSAA) is calling on eligible former national servicemen to assemble in the forecourt of the Shrine at 11.45am on Sunday, February 15, ahead of a march-off at noon.
The event will include a special flyover by aircraft from the RAAF Museum at Point Cook at 12.15pm, before participants move inside the Shrine for a commemorative address.
Guest speaker will be Dave Sabben MG, who served as officer commanding of 12 Platoon, D Company, 6RAR, during the Battle of Long Tan on August 18, 1966.
Organisers have asked attendees to wear medals on the day, with personal medals worn on the left side and medals worn on behalf of relatives worn on the right.
The NSAA said it was looking forward to a strong turnout to honour the service and shared experiences of those who undertook national service during the period.
