Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance members took part in Life Saving Victoria’s annual Green Patrol last weekend, combining environmental action with team building in a vibrant day of activities on the beach.
A total of 29 club members participated in the patrol, which focused on sustainability, environmental awareness and community engagement under the theme reduce, reuse, recycle.
The day began with members of the club’s Youth Involvement Program (YIPs) leading a beach clean-up, reinforcing the importance of protecting local beaches and waterways. Organisers said the initiative highlighted the role surf lifesavers play not only in water safety, but also in caring for the coastal environment.
Participants later turned collected waste into creative artworks, demonstrating how discarded materials could be repurposed in imaginative ways. The activity encouraged practical thinking around waste reduction and recycling, while also providing a fun and engaging challenge for members.
The afternoon concluded with a cupcake-decorating station as the group packed up, rounding out a relaxed and social end to the patrol.
Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance thanked its operations team for coordinating the event, with special recognition given to organisers JT and Tilly for their work in delivering the successful patrol.
The Green Patrol is an annual Life Saving Victoria initiative aimed at promoting environmental responsibility across surf lifesaving clubs, while strengthening connections between members and their local coastline.
